Protein smoothies are a staple for me during the hot summer months. I like to have them after my workout, but they also make a great breakfast option, especially if you are pressed for time in the morning. They are easy & quick to make and the possibilities are endless. I don’t really measure everything, just kind of eyeball it. This smoothie is made up of 1 scoop Optimum Nutrition’s Cookies & Cream protein powder, 1 Tbsp of Chocolate PB2, a handful of spinach (tasteless in smoothies but packed with nutrients), 1/2 a banana, ice cubes, a little bit of milk (almond, regular, skim, whatever you like – and I sometimes even just use water), and a dash of cinnamon. But there are so many ways you can make them.
And whatever you do, if you have bananas that are turning brown, don’t throw them away! I like to add a half a banana to most of my smoothies, so when my start going bad, I just cut them in half, then cut each half into slices (I used to skip this step….tore up my smoothie maker that way, so now I make sure to slice them up) and put them in small or snack size baggies and freeze them. Then they are ready to just throw into the blender when you make your next smoothie.
